The Higher Education Commission aspires "to assist institutions of higher learning to act as engines for socio-economic development of Pakistan" as stated in its mandate. In this vein, Pakistan's Higher Education Commission (HEC) has taken the initiative to fund applications for completed multidisciplinary applied research for prototype development and industrial value addition for technology-based product or process development. In this approach, HEC hopes to assist Pakistan's productive brains in influencing the economy via the creation of new and developing technologies. This project enabled the research ecosystem based on HEIs/ Universities to provide financial and technical help (IP, Licensing, and Commercialization) to industry through academic scientists for the resolution of indigenous industrial challenges.
This initiative has previously sponsored 200 combined academia-industry research, with over 160 of those projects licensed to industry for mass scale and commercialization. A significant number of such enterprises have already generating cash while creating large-scale jobs.
The ideas must be multidisciplinary and multi-institutional, resulting in goods or services that solve an existing industry/societal problem or create a new business opportunity that leads to positive cash-flows. begun to generate money, which is shared by all parties.
Given the circumstances stated above, the Planning Commission/CDWP accepted the project's expanded scope in order to issue the 4th Call for Proposals. As a result, Ph.D. Faculty Members (with ready research, lab scale, or pre-prototype) should submit ideas with industry and academic partners in the following theme areas: Climate Change and its Impact on Pakistan's Socioeconomic Situation (Agriculture, Food Security, Urban Development, Pollution, Floods, Biodiversity Conservation, etc.)
Computers, Telecommunications, Information and Technology (applications in Govt. services, health, textile, agriculture & dairy, etc.)
Engineering Sciences, Micro Electronics, Water, Power, Energy, and Fleet Management are some of the fields covered.
Biotechnology and its Related Sciences like (in Health, Agriculture, Textile, Leather & Dairy, etc.)
Man-Made Materials/Material of Sciences (Nanotechnology)
Robotics, defense, and military requirements
Any other applied discipline that is inductive or conducive to the success of produced items or upscales the industrial level production process.
The proposed supported projects would be expected to provide a product or service that would benefit the economy, solve a present problem, satisfy a market demand, use local raw materials, and advance current goods up the value chain.
