Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasised on Tuesday that all resources and efforts should be used to promote contemporary modalities of education, including digitalization projects, in addition to providing instructors with the most up-to-date training.
He was speaking during the introduction of the 'Teleschool Pakistan App, Google for Education, and Digital Continuous Professional Development' programme, which aims to further revolutionise Pakistan's official education medium.
Teleschool Pakistan is a smartphone application developed by the Ministry of Federal Education to give students of all classes with free online education.
In his remarks at the occasion, the prime minister lamented that teacher preparation in the country was inadequate, citing his own experience in Punjab province.
During his term as chief minister, he claimed he directed initiatives to increase the quality of around 40 training centres in the province.
The prime minister requested the Minister of Federal Education to develop a framework to improve the quality of teacher training in conjunction with provincial governments.
Referring to the importance of modern technology in education, he stated that if they wanted to provide the young generations with the most up-to-date education, they would have to provide them with laptops and other related devices, so that the nation's future builders could become acquainted with the new modes of education.
He stated that around 100,000 laptop computers will be provided to outstanding achievers across the country.
According to the prime minister, the vocational training programme should be carried out in conjunction with provincial governments and the business sector.
Instead of investing in building and mortar, he believes that businesses should invest in young students by providing them with technical and skill training.
The prime minister emphasised the importance of students receiving direct training from the business sector. The top institutions in the private sector should be employed in a transparent way, and sufficient training should be provided to each student.
The prime minister stated that they will also construct a network of Danish schools in remote parts of Balochistan, which would need significant expenditure.
He expressed optimism that providing quality education to pupils in distant areas of the province will help them catch up with students from other parts of the country.
He also emphasised the need of meeting the educational needs of orphan children.
Speaking on the occasion, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister of Federal Education and Professional Training, stated that the quality of education was connected to the concentration on teacher training.
He noted that the covid-19 epidemic has given the globe the chance to embrace virtual school learning methods.
The minister stated that six channels will be established as part of the plan, which would represent a watershed moment in the country's education system.
He stated that there were around 22.8 million out-of-school children in Pakistan, and that resources were insufficient to meet their demands, adding that the recent measures will be beneficial in meeting the needs of these children.
He emphasised the importance of young technical and skill development, noting that the country's colleges were not among the world's top leading educational institutions, which was disappointing.
At the ceremony, representatives from development partners, MPs, and key officials were present.
Waseem Ajmal, Secretary of Education and Professional Training, provided an outline of the effort.
He stated that digital material will be generated and made available on many mediums. Six digital channels for various ages were being launched.
He stated that 6,000 high-quality movies were created following the Covid epidemic.
Teachers will also receive sufficient training as part of the professional development project, he said.
He stated that 150 chromebooks were being provided to students as part of the project, and that another 6,000 chromebooks will be delivered soon.
